The Northwest Missouri State Bearcat football team begins preparations for the 2019 season Saturday when players report for the beginning of Fall camp.

The program has become accumstomed to a target on its back, and this year will be no different.

The Bearcats are coming off a 10-win season that included a share of the MIAA title and a first round playoff win over Grand Valley State, and they also return quarterback Braden Wright, the reigning MIAA Freshman of the Year. The conference's media also picked Northwest to win the league again this year.

Despite the expectations, the Bearcat coaching staff is looking for one thing out of its team this preseason.

"I just want to see physicality," head coach Rich Wright said. "We're going to have a physical camp. I want to see toughness, I want to see physicality, I want to see effort, and we'll coach the rest of it. But those things have to be there from day one."

The Bearcats open the 2019 season on Thursday, September 5 in St. Joseph with a matchup against Missouri Western.
